Global data leader and former European Commissioner for Digital Agenda, Neelie Kroes joins ODI Board
Neelie Kroes will join Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Sir Nigel Shadbolt and Baroness Martha Lane Fox on the ODI’s management board. As a non-executive director, Ms Kroes will advise the company from her unique perspective as a long-time open data leader on the international political stage.

Welcoming the appointment, ODI CEO, Gavin Starks said:
“Neelie’s leadership helped open up EU data. She is a fantastic champion of open data in the drive towards smarter cities that will provide sustainable environments for our growing urban populations. We share a commitment to deriving social, economic and environmental value from open data and I am looking forward tremendously to working with her.”
Since leaving the European Commission in 2014, Ms Kroes has worked to create a new startup ecosystem with StartUp Delta, headquartered in her native Netherlands where she is also Special Envoy for Startups. Commenting on her appointment to the ODI Board, she said that she is
"looking forward to cooperating with these highly respected and committed people."
Ms Kroes is expected to take up her (unpaid) post as ODI non-executive director this month.
