Open call for Heritage + Culture Challenge Champion

The Open Data Challenge Series is pleased to announce our latest challenge theme - heritage + culture - which will launch officially at the Open Data Institute Summit on Tuesday, 4 November.

null In the build up to the launch, we have a lot to do - explore the available open data, grapple with the biggest social issues in the sector, define the challenge question and recruit a sector specialist to support us through the process. It’s with this in mind, that I am putting finger to keyboard today - to share this great opportunity with colleagues and friends of Nesta and the Open Data Institute.

We are looking for an individual to work with us over the coming eight months to support the challenge process. We need someone who is passionate and knowledgeable with recent experience working and/or networks both in the heritage + culture (H+C) theme area and in relation to open data. This person will be passionate about the possibilities for innovation in the sector and about the opportunity to generate a new community committed to H+C and open data innovation. If you think you know anyone who would fit the bill, please pass this post on to them.

In terms of deliverables, the role is laid out in all its glory in the attached assignment description - in short, the assignment will be given to the person best placed to:

  1. Excite and inform potential participants about the challenge in person

  2. Write eloquently and enthusiastically about the challenge, the data and the user research that we will commission

  3. Share ideas with others for adoption as part of the challenge

  4. Support participants to develop their thinking and advise them about relevant competitors and/or issues they may face

If you are interested to apply, please submit your expression of interest (to include your CV, twitter handle/blog address where relevant and proposed day rate) along with your answers to the following three key questions to [email protected] by midday on Monday, 13 October:

  1. Please give an example of an activity that you have undertaken which demonstrates how you have brought entrepreneurs, designers and/or developers together to work towards social impact (200 words).

  2. What do you believe is the greatest challenge in the heritage + culture sector today? (200 words).

  3. How would you ensure people were motivated and excited to participate in the challenge? (200 words)

Assignment details for the challenge can be found here

Interviews will take place in London (or via Skype) on Wednesday, 15 October and candidates will be informed of the final outcome by Thursday, 16 October wherever possible.

Candidates are asked to ensure they are available for the Heritage and Culture Challenge Definition Day (Wednesday, 29 October between 14:00-17:00) and the weekend of 21/22 February as, should you be successful, these will be key dates for your diary.
